Campus Housing Solutions broke ground Tuesday on a two-phase project at
Mountain State University, representing a $20 million investment in the Beckley campus.

University President Charles Polk, the MSU Board of Trustees, representatives of Campus Housing Solutions and members of the community met on the corner of Grove and Minnesota avenues for the groundbreaking celebration at the future home of a new MSU housing facility.

Ron Ward, vice president of operations at MSU, said he was excited about the new addition. ?We have Hogan Hall, which is dormitory style,? he said, ?but this is actual student housing. When we recruit students who are interested in Mountain State University, they come looking for us and say, ?This is wonderful, everything I wanted, but where am I going to stay??

The ground broken Tuesday was for the first phase of the project, which is scheduled for an Aug. 1, 2010, opening and will house 204 students.

As soon as Phase I of the project is complete, work will begin on Phase II with completion expected by August 2011.
